Open Call: Workshop on social media censorship and content restriction

Application deadline22nd of April 2026 at 23:59 CET

Ada Ada Ada and Another Public invite artists in the Copenhagen area to apply for participation in a workshop about social media censorship and content restriction as part of the project Academy of Creative Justice.

We are looking for artists who:

  1. Have experienced censorship or content restriction on social media in any shape or form. See more below.
  2. Work within a wide range of art practices. This includes visual, performance, film, photography, literature and more.
  3. Are able to participate in a workshop at Thoravej 29 in Copenhagen on the 13th of May 2026 from 9:30 to 15:00. The workshop includes both smaller breaks and a lunch break.

We wish to include as diverse a range of participants as possible, so we highly encourage applications from artists, who are exposed to discrimination regarding age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, economic background, religion and more.

Timeline

The application deadline is the 22nd of April 2026 at 23:59.
After the deadline, we will select 10 artists to participate in the workshop.
Selected participants will receive notice and more info on the workshop on the 29nd of April 2026 at the latest.

Budget

Participation in the workshop comes with a small fee of 500 DKK, along with drinks, snacks and lunch during the workshop.

While artists outside of the Copenhagen area are also free to apply, there is unfortunately no budget for travel expenses.

Accessibility

We expect participants to show up in person for the workshop, but if you are unable to do so, e.g. due to a disability, let us know in the submission form. If you are selected, we will work with you to find ways to allow you to participate.

If you'd like to participate in the workshop, but cannot financially justify a full-day workshop due to a challenging economic status, let us know in the submission form. If you are selected, we will work with you to find ways to allow you to participate, e.g. by adjusting the participation compensation.

About the workshop

This workshop is the first step in the development of a new collaborative artwork within the framework of Academy of Creative Justice. The goal is to start a dialogue with other artists, who have experienced censorship or content restriction on social media, which can lead to further development of the artwork. We will be working from Ada's and the participants' own experiences by discussing and investigating them together. The emphasis is on the personal, social, economic and political ramifications of those experiences.

What is social media censorship or content restriction?

We work with a wide definition of censorship and content restriction. It includes both the deletion and suppression of posts, stories, messages, profiles and other elements of your social media presence.

To give you some idea of what we mean by censorship and content restriction, here is a non-exhaustive list of what this may include:

  • Having content deleted for containing nudity.
  • Having content marked as sensitive or NSFW.
  • Having content explicitly marked as non-recommendable, i.e. not available on explore feeds and search.
  • Having content shadowbanned, i.e. invisibly suppressed by a platform's content recommendation algorithm.

Read more about shadowbanning on The Conversation:
"What is shadowbanning? How do I know if it has happened to me, and what can I do about it?"

About Academy of Creative Justice, Ada Ada Ada and Another Public

Academy of Creative Justice is a new platform for art and human rights, founded and run by Another Public. The platform is dedicated to developing and disseminating artistic projects that actively engage as agents of change within the field of human rights. Throughout 2026 and 2027 the platform will be structured around four tracks: Work, Family, Media and Safety, all related to current human rights challenges in Denmark.

Ada Ada Ada (she/they) is an algorithmic artist, writer and speaker, whose practice revolves around the societal, bodily and personal implications of computational systems like 'artificial intelligence' and social media. She makes use of computationally augmented self-portraiture, video and performance, often accompanied by writing and installation. She employs her transgender body as a subject, tool and site of queer resistance in investigative artistic processes that challenge the oppressive systems that shape our lives.

Another Public is a curatorial agency that organizes collaborative art projects, programmes and exhibitions in various social contexts with the objective to challenge marginalizing social structures.
